2005: Bogotá, Colombia

Bogotá, Colombia was recognized as the first ever winner of the Sustainable Transport Award for it’s TransMilenio Bus Rapid Transit System and the city’s commitment to integrating bicycle infrastructure with mass transit, and redefining and reclaiming public space for its citizens. Under the leadership of Mayor Enrique Peñalosa, Bogotà was transformed into a model livable city and set a precedent for subsequent years STA cities.
